Over the last 5 years, the passion sector has been active with an estimated US$ 21 billion in global corporate finance transactions, proposed and/or closed, across hundreds of small and middle market businesses. Transactions have included venture capital, private equity, strategic acquisitions and various forms of debt capital. Numerous new businesses have been established.
During this period, M&A transactions accounted for about 37% of the dollar amount and about half of the number of transactions. Capital transactions accounted for about 63% of the dollar amount.
In terms of capital transactions, venture capital equity, which incubated new businesses and technologies, accounted for the majority number of transactions while the majority dollar amount of capital has been debt for established businesses and credits.
In terms of regional activity, the US market leads with a majority of transactions followed by Europe and then China/Asia.
The passion sector is a global business with significant activity in each of the US, China/Asia and European markets. The combination of the improved economic environment in recent years, which has increased personal wealth worldwide, along with demographic wealth transfers from different generations will continue to fuel passion sector demand for many years. Further, technology, data and digital platforms have made global access nearly seamless.
